About the JNC

Our Purpose

Established in 1978 and granted charitable status in 2016, the Joint Neurosciences Council (JNC) champions clinical neuroscience across the UK, bringing together member Societies and Associations to collaborate, connect, and advance the field, while promoting research and education.

The Joint Neurosciences Council is committed to postgraduate neuroscience education and runs ebrain as its online learning platform. Through ebrain, JNC provides access to one of the largest neuroscience e learning programmes in the world, helping translate the council’s educational mission into practical digital resources for clinicians and trainees.

Council Structure

Member Societies and Associations each appoint a delegate to the JNC. The Council elects a President, Deputy President, Secretary and Treasurer to serve as its Officers and Trustees and meets three times a year.

President

Professor Raad Shakir

CBE, MBChB, MSc, FRCP, FAAN, Hon Member EAN. Past President of the World Federation of Neurology and President of the South of England Neurosciences Association. He also serves as an Honorary Consultant Neurologist at Charing Cross Hospital, London.

Immediate Past President

Mr Riki Trivedi

Riki is recognised across the UK and Ireland neurosurgical community for promoting high standards in cerebrovascular and minimally invasive surgery, and for his roles in education and training.

Mr Nick Carleton-Bland
Secretary

Mr Nick Carleton-Bland

BSc, MSc, PGCert, Dip. Interprof. Spine Care, MBBS, MRCS, FRCS(Neuro.Surg). Nick is National Director of Online Neurosurgical Training, Training Program Director for Neurosurgery in Cheshire Mersey, and a consultant neurosurgeon in Liverpool.

Dr Romi Saha
Treasurer

Dr Romi Saha

MA, BMBCh, FRCP, PhD. Dr Saha trained at Cambridge and Oxford, completed a PhD in molecular neuroscience at King’s College London, and is a consultant neurologist with a strong focus on postgraduate education, training, Parkinson’s disease, and movement disorders.
